Family Remembrance Day set for Sept. 4 at Wheaton cemetery

On Labor Day weekend, the Milton Township Cemeteries Authority will host a Family Remembrance Day from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 4, at St. Stephen Cemetery, off St. Charles Road in Wheaton.

There will be a Mass, hymns, speakers, and a potluck picnic. If your last name starts with A-F bring side dish, G-O a dish to pass, and P-Z desserts.

After it was established in the mid-1900s, the cemetery of St. Stephen's Catholic Mission, or Gretna Green, became the last resting place for many DuPage County pioneers. The last burial was conducted, in 1911. The Diocese of Joliet has agreed that Milton Township should care for this property.
