Goodrich Farm's animals ready to welcome visitors at Pioneer Day Sept. 26

Glen Ellyn Historical Society's Pioneer Day, previously called Tavern Day, celebrates the town's early settlers. On Sunday, Sept. 26, between 1 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., stop by Stacy's Tavern Museum, 557 Geneva Road, Glen Ellyn.

Meet the Goodrich Farm's goats, chickens and rabbits behind Stacy's Tavern Museum.

Along with these farm animals will be Jennifer Mitton Cox and her beautiful horses, Jilly Jack and Blue. She will be riding up to the event, ready to meet visitors and tell them all about her horses. There will be many activities reminiscent of early pioneers for people to try, including candle dipping, rope making, and apple peeling, to name just a few.

Watch the blacksmith ply his trade. Enjoy the roving musicians.

Admission to Pioneer Day is $8 or $4 for children.

For information about Pioneer Day, visit the Glen Ellyn Historical Society's website at www.GlenEllynHistory.org or call (630) 469-1867.

Stacy's Tavern Museum is an authentic 1840s wayside inn which is owned by the village of Glen Ellyn and operated by the Glen Ellyn Historical Society. It stands in its original location on Geneva Road. The tavern was built by Moses Stacy and his wife Joanna in 1846. The construction was mainly wood on a foundation of native boulders. The building was acquired by the Village in 1968. Restoration began in 1971. The museum is open today through the join efforts of the village of Glen Ellyn and the historical society. It is open for tours by volunteer docents. Visitors will see what life was like in the 1840s, for the Stacy family and for their guests.
