Bartlett's Immanuel UCC celebrating 130 years with service on Aug. 15

All are welcome to the 130th Anniversary Worship at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 15, at Immanuel United Church of Christ. It is the "church with the red doors" on the corner of North and Western avenues near downtown Bartlett.

A special coffee hour will follow.

On Aug. 15, 1891, families in and around Bartlett decided to build a church in their own community in preference to traveling to Ontarioville (now Hanover Park) or Hoosier Grove (now Streamwood) for worship. They chose to keep the name of the mothering congregations, Immanuel - God is with us - as their own, on Aug. 26, 1891.

Rich in history, but modern in theology and practice, the church is the longest continuing worshipping congregation in Bartlett.

The Rev. Susan Tyrrel's message, "Be Careful How You Live" is based on scriptures from Ephesians and 1 Kings. The congregation welcomes Kathleen Gentes as the guest musician.

Those who are not vaccinated for the COVID-19 virus are expected to wear masks and socially distance. A video of the Sunday worship can be viewed, same day, at 4 p.m., on the church's Facebook page.
