St. Charles Women's Club awards two scholarships

At their year-end celebration on Monday, June 14, the St. Charles Women's Club awarded two annual Sherry Costello Memorial Scholarships.

The female high school senior recipient is Abigail Srocki, a graduate from St. Charles North High School. The award recipient must be a female student in senior year enrolled in a high school within the St. Charles Unit District 303 boundaries or reside within the District 303 boundaries enrolled in nontraditional education.

The adult female award goes to a woman who works or lives within the St. Charles Unit District 303 boundaries and enrolled in a degree program. The winner of that award happens to be a District 303 teacher, Allison Thomas, who teaches second grade at Davis-Richmond School.

Congratulations ladies!

Historically, this award was given to women who were enrolled in a college degree program to better themselves and/or their families. In the 2017-18 club year, they expanded that to include not only women pursuing higher education degrees, but also to female college-bound high school seniors.

The club also awarded monetary donations to the nonprofit partnerships - Lazarus House in St. Charles, which serves persons who are homeless or at risk of homelessness in mid-Kane County, and Mutual Ground in Aurora, which provides services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault in Kendall and southern Kane counties.

The St. Charles Women's Club raised funds throughout the year to award the scholarships and present the donations.

The club is planning its big kickoff event for the new club year on Monday, Aug. 23. Save the date; more details to come.
