July 15 Pack the Pantry Radiothon to raise money for Aurora area food pantry

On Thursday, July 15, Aurora's largest food pantry joins together with 95.9 The River, asking for community support to ensure no one goes hungry in Fox Valley this summer.

Aurora Area Interfaith Food Pantry is hosting the "Pack the Pantry Radiothon," a 13-hour live radio broadcast, from three Aurora restaurant locations.

Generous sponsors will match community donations so that every dollar given will be doubled to meet the $50,000 fundraising goal.

Donations are being accepted now at www.aurorafoodpantry.org/packthepantry.

The entire community is invited to meet their favorite 95.9 The River radio personalities on Thursday, July 15. Come share a meal during the 13-hour live broadcast at three popular Aurora restaurants:

• Breakfast at Syrup from 6 to 10 a.m. at 1961 W. Galena Blvd., Aurora, IL 60506;

• Lunch at Spartan House from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 2124 W. Galena Blvd., Aurora, IL 60506;

• Dinner & Celebration at AC's Pub from 3 to 7 p.m. 1032 Prairie St., Aurora, IL 60506.

In 2020, the Aurora Area Interfaith Food Pantry's weekly food distributions increased by a staggering 400 percent.

Over 69,000 households were served nutritious, supplemental groceries via a safe, no contact distribution method during the COVID-19 crisis. Community-wide support is needed to ensure all people have access to healthy, nutritious food during the summer months when demand rises.

Summertime is when pantries have the least amount of food in stock, months after the holiday giving season.

After school ends, students in need may not have transportation to summer feeding programs when parents are at work. Families rely on Aurora's food pantries for extra nutrition support when kids are at home.

Every dollar donated to the Pack the Pantry Radiothon Fundraiser for Aurora Area Interfaith Food Pantry translates to $16 worth of food, thanks to the matching sponsors: AC's Pub, Dolan & Murphy Team of Caton Commercial, Gerald Subaru of Naperville, Konen Insurance, The Lakone Company, Mooney & Thomas P.C., and Spartan House.

Online donations can be made by visiting www.aurorafoodpantry.org/packthepantry.

Donations by check may be mailed to Aurora Food Pantry, Attn: Pack the Pantry, PO Box 2602, Aurora, IL 60507.

Founded in 1981, Aurora Area Interfaith Food Pantry operates one of the largest food pantries in northern Illinois, distributing an average of 88 pounds of food each visit to more than 69,000 households in 2020.

Its mission is to help end local hunger by ensuring that everyone has access to enough nourishing food, thereby helping the overall community stay healthy and productive. For more information, please visit www.aurorafoodpantry.org.
