Education Exploration event connects area families to education options

The COVID-19 pandemic caused many families around the world to re-evaluate their child's education. Many were forced to homeschool as schools shut down; others continued in public school with restrictions on how often and in what ways their children would be taught. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the situation has led many to consider homeschooling as an ongoing option. Others have considered private school education for the first time.

"It's clear that in an unprecedented environment, families are seeking solutions that will reliably meet their health and safety needs, their childcare needs and the learning and socio-emotional needs of their children," it reports.

In response to this change, and to the congregation and community members who are looking for options for their children, St. Mark's Church in downtown Geneva is hosting Education Exploration on Saturday, June 26, from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The open house style event will feature speakers from Illinois Family Institute, Illinois Christian Home Educators, a former Chicago Public School Teacher turned homeschooling mom, and a panel of young adults who received homeschooling or private Christian education.

A resources area will host 13 area private Christian grammar and high schools, and 8 homeschool groups. Families will have the opportunity to speak with these representatives to learn more about what they offer and how to enroll/begin to homeschool. The event is free, and childcare is provided to children under age 5. Parking will be available around the church, and at the Geneva train station.
