Malik's Music to host live music fundraiser June 4 at Spotted Fox in St. Charles

Three St. Charles teenagers, Zac, Max, and Cam Chiet, have always had music central in their lives. In 2018, they created Malik's Music, a nonprofit organization which grants scholarships of instruments and lessons to those who can't afford them.

They created Malik's music after a dear friend named Malik passed, way too soon.

"Malik loved music, and this is a way to honor him," Zac Chiet said.

"After Malik passed, we were looking for a way to help kids when times are tough and music reduces anxiety and depression," Max Chiet said.

Malik's Music helps kids, age 12 to 18 in Kane and collar counties. "We have been able to help local kids, which is very important to us," Cam Chiet said.

This winter, the nonprofit was fortunate enough to partner with Operation Christmas Child to donate two guitars and accessories. This summer, they plan on donating more than 15 instruments to children and they hope to accomplish that goal by Sept. 15.

Malik's Music donates both used instruments acquired from the community as well as grants for music lessons from local music teachers. Malik's Music funds its grants through a combination of online donations and events such as concert fundraisers. To date, Malik's Music has been able to provide instruments, lessons, and educational materials to over 100 youth musicians.

This summer, Malik's Music is happy to be partnering with the St. Charles Business Alliance, with concert fundraisers.

Malik's Music will be holding its first concerts of the summer from 6 to 8 p.m. Fridays, June 4 and 18, on the patio at the Spotted Fox Ale House, 3615 E. Main St. in St. Charles.

These concerts will not only serve as fundraisers for Malik's Music, but also provide a space for local youth musicians to play and showcase their talents to the community. Stop by the Spotted Fox on June 4 and 18 to learn more about Malik's Music and support its mission.
