Meet some Starfish 'Alumni Pups' at May 22 benefit

Soul Sisters Gives of Geneva and Starfish Animal Rescue are teaming up to save the lives of puppies.

Starfish Animal Rescue is a 501(c)3 nonprofit, volunteer-run organization that rescues dogs and puppies from kill shelters and heals them through fostering and medical care.

Every two weeks, early on a Saturday morning, dozens of frightened animals arrive to waiting volunteers on Bond Street in Batavia.

They are fed, walked, assessed for medical issues, and then released to prescreened foster families. Foster families bathe them, take them for grooming if needed, feed and cuddle them, coax them out into the world, take them to vet appointments for further medical treatment and care. After several weeks of rest and adjusting, the pups are eligible for adoption. Dogs and puppies are placed all over the Chicago area.

All medical expenses and initial supplies are paid for with donations to Starfish Animal Rescue. Starfish has helped these four legged victims through chemical burns, broken bones, Lyme disease, heartworm, abuse and an endless host of issues. Yet in the end, most adoptive families will ask "who saved who?"

Souls Sisters Gives, a group of charity minded women, is hosting several opportunities to support Starfish Animal Rescue this May.
