Just Food Initiative of the Fox Valley is a faith- and hope-based organization of individuals committed to building just and sustainable food systems.

Young Black students have been chosen by partner African American Men of Unity of Aurora, to be participants in this year's JFI "Young Black Agri-preneurs of Kane County" program. The program began Saturday, April 3.

The students -- approximately 10 Black boys -- are learning where foods come from, understanding soil and how it produces plant foods, and why clean and green foods are so vital to their own bodies -- both brain and brawn. Program lessons will be capped off with four of the approximately 10 participants planting their own individual gardens over Memorial Day weekend. The food they grow will belong to their own family.

The youth will experience food farming as a possible career. They will be exposed to ideas for becoming a business person. Just Food plans to expand the program in the future.
