District 214 French teacher earns national honor

A District 214 educator has been honored as recipient of the 2021 AATF Dorothy S. Ludwig Excellence in Teaching Award at the secondary level.

This award, given annually by the American Association of Teachers of French to only one teacher in the U.S., recognizes highly successful French teachers who also participate in conferences, are leaders in the foreign language field and serve in their professional organizations.

Earning the honor is Buffalo Grove High School Social Science and World Language Division Head Barbara Meyer.

"We are so proud of Barbara Meyer, 2021's winner of the American Association of Teachers of French Dorothy S. Ludwig Excellence in Teaching Award," said Buffalo Grove Principal Jeff Wardle. "Barb was a student of French at Buffalo Grove High School, and has returned to her alma mater to pour her love and passion for students and the French language and culture into the hearts and minds of our students for the past two decades. In these times, we acknowledge the need for cultural barriers to be broken in society and lift up Barb as an advocate for all races and nationalities. We are lucky to have such an amazing instructor of French, and French Program, for our students at BGHS."

She will be honored at the Awards Ceremony at the AATF annual convention.
