Recycle your electronics, clothing, books in Kane County April 10
Kane County will hold its first recycling event of the new year from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 10, behind the Kane County Circuit Clerk's office, 540 S. Randall Road, St. Charles. It is located just north of Route 38 and south of Route 64 across from the county fairgrounds. Wait time is likely to be less than 5 minutes for this event. There is no need to arrive early!
They will be accepting electronics, clothes and textiles, and books. This event is for electronics, clothes, and books only. It will not include document shredding or paint. Look online for the full schedule of 2021 events.
Books, clothing, shoes and textiles are free to drop off. Electronics collection will include free recycling of computers, laptops, stereos, DVD players, printers, keyboards, mice, phones, electronic games, holiday light strings, and more, all of which can be recycled at no charge.
TVs and monitors cost $25 for screens under 21 inches (measured diagonally) or $35 for those over 21 inches.
Electronics are collected and recycled by eWorks Electronics Services, a nonprofit whose mission is to employ individuals with developmental disabilities to sort and disassemble the electronic equipment. Your payment for TVs and monitors goes directly to them and helps fund that work.
Clothing, shoes, and accessories are collected by eWorks and then passed through to another nonprofit called RewearAble, who has the same mission. Clothing is free to drop off. They take worn and torn textiles too. Please place clean textiles in plastic bags for drop-off.
Books of any age or condition, and both hardcover and paperback, are free to drop off. They are sorted and redistributed by Pacesetter Books, who assesses books for reusability and recycles those that cannot be redistributed.
You also can bring already shredded documents in paper bags to the book area for recycling. A Document Shredding Event is scheduled for April 24.
Please wear a face mask. Materials must be in the hatchback area or trunk of the vehicle. Residents must remain in the vehicle; site staff will unload for you.

Electronics and textile drop-off locations are currently open 5 days a week, 8 hours a day. Residents must follow these rules of use to protect employees and visitors to the sites.

• West Dundee Public Works, 900 Angle Tarn, West Dundee, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays.
