Aurora retired teachers' drive-thru luncheon to benefit food pantries

Aurora Area Retired Teachers Association will hold a drive-through benefit luncheon fundraiser Tuesday, Feb. 2, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The event at Gaslite Manor, 2485 Church Road in Aurora, will benefit Marie Wilkinson and Aurora Area Interfaith food pantries.

The association is a social and service group of nearly 400 former educators from Aurora, Batavia and Kaneland schools.

The public is invited. Lunch entree options are ham, beef tips or baked cod. Side dishes include vegetables, buttered noodles and a cookie. Association volunteers will deliver lunches when diners drive up under a front-door canopy.

Lunches cost $20 each. Deadline for reservations is Friday, Jan. 22. Call Dick Schindel, AARTA president, at (630) 921-1307 or send an order with check payable to AARTA to 784 Morningside Ave., Aurora, IL 60505.

The drive-through benefit is AARTA's third consecutive bimonthly Go-To benefit. The project was launched in October after in-person meetings were suspended due to the pandemic.

The Dec. 1 event sold 115 lunches that raised $1,200 for Aurora Communities in Schools and donations of coats, hats, mittens, gloves, scarves, and socks. CIS, a nonprofit, provides free after-school and summer programs and counseling services to Aurora students.

Additionally, AARTA members sold 200 handmade face masks and 96 homemade lap blankets that were delivered to six nursing homes in Aurora and Batavia. Association president Schindel donned a Santa outfit to deliver lunches to customers.

Prospective members are invited. Call (630) 921-1307, email dickschindel@comcast.net or visit www.auroraarearta.org.
