Two York students collect donations of school supplies, games for Haitian school

Cousins Emerson Dondlinger and Avery Stanley, who are students at York High School in Elmhurst, recently held a donation drive for school supplies and games for the Institut Notre Dame de la Médaille Miraculeuse, a school and orphanage for hundreds of kids in Cap Haitien, Haiti.

They connected to the school through the Fraternité Notre-Dame nuns that sell baked goods at the Elmhurst Farmers Market.

These students in Haiti live below poverty level and have been heavily impacted by the lack of supplies due to COVID-19 pandemic and Tropical Storm Laura.

These youth were in desperate need of educational supplies, games and sporting equipment that many Americans take for granted.

The girls set up a SignUpGenius.com website, with a targeted list of items needed and quantities. Their friends, family and extended family met their goal.

A 7- x 4- x 4-foot crate is on its way to Sister Marie in Haiti.
