North Shore Teen Raises $9,000 for Kellogg Cancer Center and is Honored for Service

Olivia Ohlson, a 13-year-old Evanston, IL teen who raised $9,000 for NorthShore Kellogg Cancer Center has been nominated for the Daily Point of Light Award for her service to the north shore community.

The Daily Point of Light Award honors individuals who change the world through leading and supporting causes they care about.

Over the past several years, Olivia has made a tremendous difference in her community by volunteering countless hours to help north shore senior citizens, hospital patients, essential workers, low-income families, cancer patients, veterans, struggling students, and many more. After her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer, she started Olivia's Pink Lemonade and Cookie Stands. Olivia's stands raised $7,000 and an additional $2,000 through memorial gifts for breast cancer research. Olivia donated all the money to the NorthShore Kellogg Cancer Center in Evanston where her mother was treated.

Olivia says she wants to raise money for breast cancer research and provide support for women like her mom who didn't have family to help them.

The pandemic did not slow down Olivia and her passion to help people in need. Among many of her volunteer projects, Olivia created hygiene kits for Evanston's underserved, where she fundraises, assembles and then distributes free hygiene kits to people in need. She also started offering free tutoring to her fellow students and created a Youtube channel to post math tutoring and reading videos.
