D214 Community Education fall lineup offers something for everyone

With fall approaching, District 214 Community Education is offering a lineup of classes that offers something for everyone.

This fall's Community Education catalog offers a large variety of classes in categories including Youth and Family, Professional Development, Languages, Culinary, Fitness and Athletics, Health and Wellness and more.

This year, in order to provide safe options, District 214 Community Education is also offering a variety of ways to participate in enrichment classes. Some classes are in-person, some are at-home and others are flex classes that can be held in person or online.

Adjusting to meet community needs during the COVID-19 pandemic, Community Education has launched the Remote Learning Lab, which provides supervised care by a Learning Coach for children in grades 1-8. Students are placed into groups of 15 or fewer in large spaces to allow for social distancing. While students will spend most of the day online remote learning with their classroom teacher, fun activities and brain-breaks are planned throughout the day to provide some time away from the screen. Similar to other programs in the community, this is designed to provide supervision to younger students doing remote learning and will provide opportunities for socialization.

In the Arts department, Community Education is presenting classes such as Intro to Needlepoint, Quilting, Beginning Photography, Outdoor Photography, Latin Dance, Ballroom Dance, Beginning Guitar and much more.

Students can explore the world through learning how to cook new dishes in culinary classes. Among this year's new classes this year are Become a Mixologist-Making Herbal Mocktails, Delicious Budget Meals, and Oktoberfest Food Favorites. Some favorite culinary classes that are returning are Greek Home Cooking: Opa! and Home Cheesemaking.

Because staying healthy is more important than ever, this fall's lineup includes a large variety of classes to help people stay physically and emotionally healthy. Fitness and Athletic classes include Badminton, Pickleball, Pilates, Belly Dancing for Fitness and Fun, Zumba Gold, Yoga, Walk Live Fitness program and more. New Health and Wellness classes include Holistic Wellness, Leveraging the Power of Your Self-Esteem, Introduction to Energy Touch and Healing, and CBD 101: Knowledge is Power.

Considering the misinformation about COVID-19 that circulates, it is essential to provide people with research-based answers regarding the pandemic and the class, Successfully Weathering This Pandemic-and the Next, will do just that, answering questions like "What can you do to minimize your risk for COVID-19 and future pandemics"?

There is no doubt people are spending more time at home, so Community Education is offering new helpful classes such as Your Vision of an Organized Home, Decluttering Your Home, Organizing Your Home, and Maintaining Organization in Your Home, to make life at home a little easier.

For those looking for a great experience for their kids to stay active, the Core Aquatics Swim Team is a competitive swim team for swimmers ages 8 years old through high school and is available to swimmers of various levels. Being a part of the swim team strengthens teamwork while also encouraging personal goal achievement. The Core Aquatics Water Polo team is another great option for kids age 10 or older who are interested in a competitive water polo experience.

District 214 Adult Education offers a large variety of programs including a Read to Learn program that provides one-to-one basic literacy tutoring. Students can sign up for online classes or can attend in person at Forest View Educational Center.
