Join virtual mural reveal with Batavia Park District and Water Street Studios
Water Street Studios invites you to attend the virtual reveal of Batavia Park District with artwork by CJ Hungerman.
Water Street Studios continues to "pARTner" with leading organizations and artists in the area through the "Activate the Alley" project, a public art display honoring 10 local organizations through the work of local artists.
On Thursday, July 30, the sixth art panel will be revealed virtually on social media.
Batavia Park District is committed to providing fun, safe, and innovative open space and recreational opportunities that will enrich the quality of life for our residents. Established in 1969 through voter referendum, the Batavia Park District maintains and operates approximately 400 acres, comprised of 40 sites, an in-line skating/skateboarding park, an aquatic facility, a museum, and a multitude of baseball and soccer fields and tennis and basketball courts. The Batavia Park District offers more than 1,000 programs each year and serves nearly 95,000 participants through various recreational, arts, and environmental programs. Allison Niemela, executive director of the Batavia Park District, says of the project, "The Batavia Park District is proud to partner with Water Street Studios and CJ Hungerman to create a unique mural that represents multi-facets of the Park District. Creativity and art is an important part of Batavia Park District programming, and we strive to provide opportunities for all to be creative and innovative in their own way. We are honored to be part of the Activate the Alley project, and we look forward to seeing the story that each mural tells as the project is completed."
Batavia Park District selected CJ Hungerman to create the artwork for their mural to bring awareness to the mission, vision, and programs of their organization. CJ Hungerman is a local painter and sculptor who has widely exhibited his work around the country.
“The uniqueness of my art is from the successful use of dissonant colors and flat shapes to create the illusion of a three-dimensional surreal environment. The medley of colors and intermingling shapes represents the diversity of people residing in our communities. Even though the colors and odd shapes should not collectively work together I have found a way to place them side by side successfully rendering them as one harmonious piece. I do this to demonstrate the way all of us can interact with each other as we traverse through the friction of life”.
