Mount Prospect Lions Club expands farmers market

With restrictions due to the coronavirus pandemic easing across Illinois, the Mount Prospect Lions Club announced its weekly farmers market will be expanding.

A community staple now in its 23rd year, the farmers market will be held rain or shine from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Sunday through October in the east Metra parking lot at the intersection of Emerson Street and Northwest Highway, downtown Mount Prospect.

Starting July 5, the farmers market will expand to more than 30 vendors, which will include those selling nonfood items, along with all the fresh produce, fruits and vegetables the community has come to enjoy. With the expansion of the market, the Lions would like to provide a friendly reminder to the community that it will continue to strictly follow the rules and regulations set by the Illinois Farmers Market Association and the village of Mount Prospect's health and safety protocols.

"The community has been great and very understanding of these guidelines to help make our farmers market a success," says Fred Steinmiller, farmers market manager. "We are sincerely appreciative of everyone's patience as we have been working through this modified format and making this valued community event better and better every week."

Founded in 1934, the Mount Prospect Lions Club is one of the area's largest financial contributors to local organizations, churches and schools that help blind, hearing-impaired, disabled, and many other individuals in need in Mount Prospect and surrounding communities.
