Exec assistant nominated for Illinois trustee award

College of Lake County's Karen Senase was recently nominated for the Illinois Community College Trustee Association's 2020 Professional Board Staff Member Award. She is recognized for her outstanding work behind the scenes to support the efforts of CLC's president Dr. Lori Suddick and the Board of Trustees.

Senase has shined since she was hired at CLC six years ago as the executive assistant to the president and board recording secretary. Leadership depends on her to be informed and prepared with meeting agendas, notes and minutes.

"I love my job, especially working with Dr. Suddick and the Board of Trustees," said Senase. "It is rewarding when I know someone is looking for notes or my minutes as a reference and everyone comes to the meeting with the necessary materials in hand."

"Karen's dedication to serving the board, as well as her personal touch in fostering internal and external relationships demonstrates her commitment to the College values. She also creates a welcoming and collaborative environment for students and colleagues daily, which demonstrates her compassion for the college's mission and commitment to student success," said CLC President Dr. Lori Suddick. "I appreciate her support and it is a pleasure to take this opportunity to recognize her hard work."

Since Senase attended a technical school for a secretarial program, she balances her full-time job with continued learning classes at CLC. She's currently working toward an associate degree in business administration, furthering her knowledge and expertise.

"I most look forward to completing my degree here at CLC," said Senase. "It is hard to work full-time, take care of a family and attend classes. I am only a few courses away!"
