To increase awareness, donations and volunteers, Montgomery-based Fox Valley Habitat for Humanity has launched a series of television ads running through May 18 on local stations.

"Give Us A Hand" is the theme of the 30-second spot, scheduled to air 423 times, said Rev. Jeffery Barrett, Habitat CEO and pastor at Genesis Community Church in Montgomery, site of Habitat offices.

Rev. Barrett announced April 30 that the campaign targets the Aurora and Naperville areas due to anticipated increased affordable housing demand. The campaign is aimed at driving awareness and increased donations to help the Fox Valley Chapter continue its mission of building more affordable housing.

He added, "The three-week campaign will reach 88 percent of the Aurora-Naperville audience. The spot features a text-to-donate app to make it easier for viewers to contribute by entering HOMES to 243-725. Television advertising to reach out to local donors is a more urgent and efficient means of communication," Rev. Barrett explained.

Don Johnson, a Habitat board member since 2019 and a retired corporate marketing-advertising executive, coordinated the campaign.

Rev. Barrett said, "With the COVID-19 pandemic affecting so many families who were already struggling with a need for decent and affordable housing, their daily lives have only become more challenging.

"For others, those who find themselves affected by the economic crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the future is newly uncertain. We see our mission of building more homes for effected families rising as the virus continues to disrupt the economy. There is urgency out there and we want to be prepared."

The Habitat leader said donations of volunteer labor, building supplies, appliances and other essentials will be accepted and greatly appreciated. "With the public's help we can meet the challenge of the increased demand for affordable housing."

Founded in 1988, Fox Valley Habitat is a nonprofit Christian housing ministry affiliated with Habitat for Humanity International. Since its inception, Fox Valley Habitat has partnered with 64 families in Aurora, North Aurora and Montgomery to provide affordable housing.
