Mia Vollkommer named 2021 Distinguished Young Woman of Schaumburg

Distinguished Young Women is a national scholarship program that inspires high school girls to develop their full, individual potential through a fun, transformative experience that culminates in a celebratory showcase of their accomplishments. Distinguished Young Women strives to give every young woman the opportunity to further her education and prepare for a successful future.

College scholarships are awarded at the state level ($6,000 last year) and millions in college-granted scholarships are available ($1 billion nationally). And one representative will advance to the national program in Mobile, Alabama where they give away over $130,000 in cash tuition scholarships.

2021 Distinguished Young Woman for Schaumburg is Mia Vollkommer. A junior at Schaumburg High School, Mia is an accomplished flautist. Her honors and activities include National Honor Society, Cross Country, Math Team, Musical, Student Math Tutor, Tri-M Honors Band Club, Book Club, Honor Roll, AP Scholar, IHSA Scholastic Achievement Award, Schaumburg HS Saxon Pride Winner, IL Seal of Biliteracy (English & Japanese), and many service activities. Mia hopes to study Chemical Engineering at the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana.

Mia will compete against other Illinois Distinguished Young Women at the state level in July.
