D214 Foundation donation drive supports students, families in need

The COVID-19 pandemic has adversely affected virtually everyone throughout the Northwest suburbs, including High School District 214 students and their families, particularly those who already were living in poverty.

Because of this, the District 214 Education Foundation has launched the 214Cares Emergency Fund as a source of immediate relief for students and families who need it most.

In this time of crisis, with so many people losing jobs and income, it is essential that emergency funds are distributed to those who need them when they need them most, said foundation Executive Director Erin Holmes.

Community members are invited and encouraged to donate to this emergency fund online at 214foundation.org. All gifts will go directly to District 214 students and families based on the guidance and recommendations of school staff.

These dollars may support housing needs, utility needs, basic living needs, academic needs and more.

Donors' gifts will go even further because the District 214 Foundation board is committing a $10,000 dollar-for-dollar match on the first $10,000 raised. During the 214Cares' campaign's first day, donors contributed $4,615.

Even before the COVID-19 pandemic hit Illinois, about 30 percent of District 214 students were living in poverty. District administrators and the Education Foundation are now aware of heightened needs created by lost jobs, a loss of normalcy and difficulty in meeting basic needs.

This is where the community can help in a direct manner. All gifts are tax-deductible, and donors will receive receipts.
