Make a fleece blanket for soldiers at Algonquin library's Makerspace

During the month of November, stop by the Makerspace at the Algonquin Area Public Library during its open hours to tie a fleece blanket for a soldier.

A blanket may seem like a simple gift but think how much warmth and comfort your favorite blanket provides for you when you are cold or lonely.

Let's share that cozy feeling with veterans and deployed service members!

They are making new fleece blankets to send to Soldiers' Angels and ship to deployed service members. A personal note of thanks will be tied or attached to each blanket sent.

All materials generously donated by community members.

The library wishes to thank all of the fleece material donors.

The Makerspace for ages 14 or older is located at the Harnish branch, 2600 Harnish Drive in Algonquin. Makerspace hours are: 1 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays; 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays; and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays. During Sensory Friendly hours are 3 to 5 p.m. Fridays. Loud equipment and tools will not be operational and ear coverings and a fidget box will be available.

A makerspace is a collaborative place that encourages exploration, creativity, design, and building, using a variety of media, tools, technology, and objects. You'll have access to a variety of equipment, tools, knowledge, and support from helpful staff. Build your dream project, collaborate on projects with others, learn how to make new things, and work with some new tools. All skill levels are welcome.
