Kane County Recycles returns Sept. 14

A Kane County Recycles Event will be held from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday Sept. 14, behind the Kane County Circuit Clerk's office, 540 S. Randall in St. Charles. Items accepted will include electronics, books and paint for recycling, and documents for shredding.

Electronics like computers, keyboards, laptops, printers, televisions (any size, type or age), stereos, cellphones, microwaves, Christmas lights, can be recycled here. A complete list of accepted items, and more information can be found at www.countyofkane.org. Note that TVs and monitors have a cost to recycle. Staff will unload for you.

Books of any age and condition for reuse or recycling. You also can bring shredded paper, documents you have already shredded at home, to the book recycling area for recycling.

Paint will be recycled at this event. Paint has a recycling fee per container, payable by the resident with cash or check; see below for costs. More details and costs for recycling oil paint at the event can be found at www.countyofkane.org/Recycling/Pages/paint.aspx.

Documents of a confidential nature may be shredded for free on-site. Limit is approximately four boxes; this free service is for residents only, no businesses please. More guidelines can be found at www.countyofkane.org/recycling/pages/confidentialDocument.aspx.

TVs and computer monitors have a recycling fee paid directly to the nonprofit recycler. Cost is $25 for screens smaller than 21 inches, measured diagonally across the screen, or $35 for screens 21 inches and larger, payable by the resident with cash or card.

Paint has a recycling fee per container, payable by the resident with cash or check. Liquid Latex paint is $1/quart can, $3/gallon can, and $10/ 5-gallon bucket. Oil-based paint is $4/quart can, $8/gallon can, and $20/ 5-gallon bucket. Note that you can recycle oil paint for free at the Naperville Hazardous Waste Facility

All else is free to drop-off.

They do not accept hazardous waste or large household appliances like washers and refrigerators.

Kane County also has two Electronics Recycling Drop-off locations that are open Monday through Friday every week.
