Grace Lutheran hosts 125th anniversary banquet Sept. 15

As part of its 125th anniversary celebration, Grace Lutheran Church of Lily Lake, 5N600 Hanson Road, will host a worship service and banquet on Sunday, Sept. 15.

The community is invited to attend the 10:30 a.m. celebratory worship service and 12:30 p.m. banquet as the church continues its theme of "Faith, Family and Community."

Guest speakers at the banquet include former vicar Larry Hamilton and pastors Anna-Kari Johnson, David Langseth, Norm Nelson, Ernst Rex and Arne Walker.

"The Good Ole Boys" will provide the music, while face painting and organized outdoor games for children also will be offered.

Reams Meat Market of Elburn is catering the banquet.

The church has had 16 pastors and 11 organists in its 125 years. The congregation began in 1894 with 21 members. It currently has 321 members who are involved with the Northern Illinois Food Bank, the Boy Scouts, and various other assistance programs.

The original church was built in 1894. In 1960, the little frame church was replaced by the present modern-style brick church, with an addition built in 2006.
