30th Anniversary of Little Mermaid at Fred P. Hall Amphitheater in Palatine

Palatine Park District presents a free outdoor movie night for the whole family on Friday, June 28. Pre-movie activities including a craft and a free raffle will start at 7 p.m. The Disney classic "Little Mermaid" will be celebrating its 30th anniversary and will be shown at Fred P. Hall Amphitheater, 256 E. Palatine Road, beginning at dusk (approximately 8:25 p.m.). Coolers, blankets, and chairs are encouraged, and concessions will be available for purchase at Pizza Bella's Poolside Café, including soft drinks and popcorn.

According to Palatine Park District's Cultural Arts Coordinator, Ashley Schiavone, "We're very excited to show this classic movie to a new generation and hopefully establish memories that parents and children can share with each other forever. 'The Little Mermaid,' although celebrating its 30th anniversary, is timeless."

In Disney's fish out of water story, a rebellious 16-year-old mermaid, Ariel, is fascinated with life on land. On one of her visits to the surface, which are forbidden by her controlling father, King Triton, she falls for a human prince. Determined to be with her new love, Ariel makes a dangerous deal with the sea witch Ursula to become human for three days. But when plans go awry for the star-crossed lovers, the king must make the ultimate sacrifice for his daughter.

According to Cultural Arts Coordinator Ashley Schiavone, "Palatine Park District's Outdoor Family Movie Night has become a community favorite, so this year we are hosting two movie events. 'The Little Mermaid' offers a great way to kick off the summer, and we will be ending our summer season with an outdoor showing of 'Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse' on August 8."

Outdoor Family Movie Night is supported by our Presenting Sponsor Grade Power Learning - Palatine. Additional support from Gold Sponsors State Farm - Eric Esch, CD One Price Cleaners, ABC Plumbing, Sewer, Heating, Cooling, & Electric, Northwest Community Healthcare, Plum Creek Supportive Living, and The Playground Games.
