Elburn business partners with Walnut Acres Farm to bring local meat CSA to area

Walnut Acres Family Farm recently announced that they are expanding their Local Meat CSA program to include a new delivery location in Elburn.

The farm has been working with Dr. David Foss of Vital Wellness Center, 880 N. Main St., to arrange the CSA delivery at his location.

Dr. Foss is a long-term member of the farm and has been very supportive of offering this option to Elburn area residents.

CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture and promotes a direct relationship between families and the farm that grows their food. People make a commitment to buying regularly from the farm and the farm commits to growing specific items, normally using more natural or organic means. While many CSA's have a vegetable focus, they can also provide meat, fruits, honey, or flowers.

Walnut Acres CSA, located in the town of Walnut in Bureau County, is one of just a handful of meat CSAs in Northern Illinois. Owners Dave and Robin Jameson raise beef, pork, chicken, eggs, and turkey which are primarily pasture raised, using no hormones or antibiotics. According to Robin Jameson, food raised using these methods is more nutritious and taste better than commercially raised meat and eggs. Plus, there are environmental and animal welfare benefits to raising the livestock in this way.

The Jamesons deliver products from their farm to customers in the western suburbs, north central Illinois, and the Quad Cities.

They are excited to partner with Dr. Foss in bringing excellent, healthy food to Elburn.

"We have many Elburn CSA members who are excited to pick up their meat here instead of driving to Batavia or South Elgin. Plus, they are eager to tell their neighbors about this opportunity."

Monthly delivery of the farm products began May 4.

More information about the CSA program and how they raise the animals can be found at www.walnut4meat.com.
