Adult Blackwell archers soon will need permits

Starting June 1, anyone 16 or older using the archery range at Blackwell Forest Preserve in Warrenville will need to have a forest preserve district permit.

Permits go on sale May 1 at dupageforest.org under "Registration & Permits" and through Visitor Services at (630) 933-7248. Annual permits will be $30 for DuPage County residents and $50 for nonresidents; daily permits will be $5 and $10, respectively.

Permits purchased in 2019 will be good through 2020. Senior citizens, active U.S. military personnel and honorably discharged U.S. veterans will be entitled to one free annual permit per year.

Archers 16 or older must have a permit and display it when using the range. Younger archers do not need permits but must have adult supervision. To determine if a supervising adult needs a permit, call Visitor Services.

The range has separate areas for beginners, advanced archers and interactive practice, each with posted regulations, bow racks, quivers and limestone shooting lines. There are wheelchair-accessible lanes and this spring the range also will have accessible bleachers and picnic tables.

Fees from the sale of permits will help defray the cost of equipment repairs, new targets and the general upkeep of the range, which has increased in popularity over the past few years.
