Aurora Methodists open Holy Week with Palm Sunday

Flowing Forth United Methodist Church in Aurora opened Holy Week April 14 by waving palm fronds to recall Jesus entrance to Jerusalem.

The Rev. Derek Rogers, Flowing Forth pastor, said palm branches symbolized victory in the Roman Empire.

Crowds welcomed Jesus by laying palm branches on the path as Jesus rode into Jerusalem, which can now be seen as symbolic of his victory over death.

Rev. Rogers said Holy Week at Flowing Forth continues with:

• Maundy Thursday, April 18, service remembering Jesus' last supper at 7 p.m.

• Good Friday, April 19, service recalling Jesus' crucifixion at 7 p.m.

• Easter Sunday, April 21, service celebrating Jesus' resurrection at 10 a.m.

The church meets at Aurora Christian School, 2255 Sullivan Road in Aurora. The public is invited. Admission and parking are free. Refreshments and fellowship precede worship services.
