Mandi Theater performs Hindi play, Nirjhari, by Sunita Lad Bhamray

On Saturday, March 16, Chicagoland will be treated to the US premiere of the Hindi play, Nirjhari by playwright Sunita Lad Bhamray. This play is being produced by the Mandi Theater group as part of the International Women's Day Celebration.

Nirjhari is a play that delves into marital complications while questioning superficial necessities. Amiable and sensitive, Nirjhari is trapped in a marriage that is fraying at its edges. Does she say enough is enough? Does she take a firm stance? The answers lie within each one of us! According to the author, Nirjhari is "gentle as a cascading waterfall. Nirjhari is everything that her name stands for. I came across this exquisite name many years ago and I was certain that I was going to create one of my characters to be Nirjhari."

Sunita Lad Bhamray is a prolific writer and the author of the popular book Ganga Jamuna. She has expressed that "as a child whenever I was touched by a poignant scene or found myself flushed with happiness, I would invariably wish that I could recreate those instances into words." She has succeeded brilliantly in doing this in the play. Her newest role is as a producer of the film More Chai Please which will be released later this year.

Hosted by Mandi Theatre Group and performed at the Mario Parente Theater, 1S325 Ardmore Ave., Villa Park, Nirjhari is directed by Chicago's own Archana Gidwani and Alka Sharma, with Sonali Shani in the lead. Tickets are available at www.Manditheater.com
