Join film screening, discussion on the free press Jan. 25

Unitarian Universalist Society of Geneva, 102 S. Second St., will show the 2017 film "Nobody Speak: Trials of the Free Press" at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25.

The online tabloid Gawker lost a high stakes legal battle that pitted privacy rights against the first amendment. The verdict bankrupted Gawker, but also exposed a shadowy figure behind the scenes - Silicon Valley venture capitalist Peter Thiel. In an age of extreme inequality, how vulnerable is a free press that has lost most of its traditional sources of income?

Join them in the Common Room as they look at the current state of the free press in America.

The film is part of the fourth-Friday Film program that is sponsored by the Social Justice Team of the Unitarian Universalist Society of Geneva and is free to the public. The public is encouraged to register at www.uusg.org/friday-flicks/ to receive email notices of future programs.
