Wolff's Flea Market to End Palatine Run at End of January

Wolff's Flea Market will be closing the doors to its indoor Palatine location at 1775 N. Rand Rd. on Sunday, January 27, 2019. The building has been sold and construction of a new business will occur in the near future. Throughout this time, it will be business as usual with regular hours of Saturdays and Sundays 8am-4pm.

Family owned and operated, Wolff's Flea Market has been well known since 1991 for its longstanding outdoor Sunday flea market in Rosemont. It has also operated at other short term indoor locations in Melrose Park, Mount Prospect and Rolling Meadows. For the past 9 years Wolff's Flea Market made Palatine its year round indoor home in the former Menard's building. Says owner David Wolff, "We are grateful to the Village of Palatine and the surrounding shopping community for this successful run. We experienced a solid holiday and early winter crowd and expect the market to remain vibrant until the end as shoppers purchase last chance items."

If you have never yet been to Wolff's or any other flea market, the business model is simple. A flea market fills both an environmental and economic niche. It offers a place for people to sell unwanted items, to save money on discounted new or second hand items and to start a small service or business. Over the years, sales of excess retail inventory, abandoned storage sheds, and house clean-out items have found the perfect outlet to reach savvy consumers. A flea market utilizes the concepts of recycling and repurposing, thus keeping unwanted yet usable products out of landfills.

While some vendor inventory at Wolff's Flea Market Flea Market - Palatine is naturally diminishing, there are still many treasures and discounts to be found. Grocery and retail store overstock, store displays, clothing, resale and new items, records, collectibles, furniture and books are just a few categories of merchandise offered by over 200 small businesses.

"Wolff's Flea Market is more than it appears to be", says Sharon Wolff, Creative Media and Merchandise Consultant. "Over the years, hundreds of small businesses have gotten their start and established themselves with regular and local shoppers. However, beyond the business aspect, strong friendships among both customers and vendors have bloomed as the market became a regular weekend meeting place for our Palatine flea market family. Children of vendors have literally grown up at the market, acquiring life skills like communication, responsibility and salesmanship while participating in their family business."

Wolff's continues to look for another ideal indoor location. Says owner Don Wolff, "We have some possibilities and hope to open a new indoor home by next fall of 2019. Believe us when we say you will all be the first to know!"
