Libertyville High School Receives 2018 National Blue Ribbon Award

Libertyville High School was named a recipient of the 2018 U.S. Department of Education National Blue Ribbon of Excellence Award. The Blue Ribbon Award is an extremely competitive and rigorous award competition and is the highest distinction granted to schools by the U.S. Department of Education.

Representatives from Community High School District 128 proudly accepted the 2018 Blue Ribbon School Award on behalf of LHS students, staff and community at the Nov. 8 Blue Ribbon Ceremony in Washington, D.C. Pictured at the event are D128 Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction Rita Fischer, LHS Principal Tom Koulentes, Director of the National Blue Ribbon Program Aba Kumi, D128 Superintendent Prentiss Lea, and D128 Communications Director Mary Todoric.

The coveted National Blue Ribbon Schools award affirms the hard work of educators, families, and communities in creating safe and welcoming schools where students master challenging and engaging content. Now in its 36th year, the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program has bestowed recognition on more than 8,800 schools. Recipient schools are honored in one of two performance categories, based on all student scores, subgroup student scores and graduation rates. LHS was recognized in the exemplary high performing school category. Schools recognized in this category are among their state's highest performing schools as measured by state assessments or nationally normed tests.

LHS was also a 1990 Blue Ribbon recipient. Its D128 sister school, Vernon Hills High School, received the honor in 2010.
