Wasco Nursery & Garden Center named a Top 100 Independent Garden Center

Wasco Nursery & Garden Center in St. Charles has been named one of the largest independent garden centers in the United States and Canada by Garden Center magazine.

The prestigious list showcases the largest firms in the U.S. and Canada.

Wasco Nursery ranked 88 on the 2018 Garden Center Top 100 Independent Garden Centers List, which was published in September and sponsored by AmericanHort and Rapid Garden POS.

"Our Top 100 list includes some of the best and brightest leaders in the garden center industry," said Garden Center Editor Michelle Simakis. Wasco Nursery was founded in 1925 by Lynn Jay. The original farm was located on La Fox Rd., just south of Wasco, and consisted of about twenty acres.

Today Wasco Nursery is located on route 64 about 5.5 miles west of Randall Road and features two farms totaling nearly 140 acres, a 10-acre retail garden center (the area's largest), landscape design and installation services, more than 11,000 square feet of greenhouse space, a water gardening department, as well as a garden gift shop that is open year round.

With the continued growth in the Fox Valley area, Wasco Nursery is focused in their mission to provide area residents with high quality, locally grown plant and landscape material, expert advice as well as professional installation and design services.

"We have an amazing group of team members who work hard on a daily basis to provide our customers with the best plants, expert guidance and professional installation. We are both honored and humbled to be included among the list of some of the most well respected independent garden centers in the United States," said Wasco Nursery owner Matt Zerby.

The Garden Center Top 100 is based on 2017 sales volume from independent garden centers. Companies on the Top 100 list earned combined revenues of more than $1.2 billion in 2017. The list includes companies from 32 states in the U.S., and seven garden centers are from Canada.
