Girl Scout Troop to host screening of 'I Am Jane Doe' Oct. 11

Girl Scout Troop 75142 is partnering with the Women's Studies Program at Lewis University in Romeoville and the Spirited Pearls Foundation to co-host a screening of the movie "I Am Jane Doe."

The troop consists of two Senior Scouts and two Cadettes, who are between the ages of 12 and 14. The girls in the troop strive to tackle issues that affect children (especially girls) their age as well as issues pertaining to women. Human trafficking is one such issue.

The movie was released last year, and the Girl Scout Troop and a panel discussion to follow on the Lewis University campus.

Few screenings of the movie have been hosted in the Chicago area to-date, which is unfortunate because sex trafficking is such an important (and often overlooked issue).

The movie will be shown from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, at St. Charles Borromeo's North Campus, 101 Airport Road, Romeoville

Oct. 11 is the date of the United Nations' observance of International Day of the Girl Child.

The evening will include introductions, the 99-minute film runtime, and the panel discussion.

The event will be free to attend, but advance registration will be required via the event's EventBrite.com page at iamjanedoe2018.eventbrite.com. Adults and children alike are encouraged to attend, but the subject matter is most appropriate for middle schoolers and older. Men are also welcome and are encouraged to attend.
