Director discusses Vietnam War film at Cantigny Park

An award-winning documentary filmmaker and Vietnam veteran, Ron Osgood, will introduce and screen his 2017 film "Just Like Me: The Vietnam War - Stories from All Sides" during an appearance next week at Cantigny Park in Wheaton.

The free presentation, sponsored by the First Division Museum at Cantigny Park, begins at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, in the Visitors Center at 1S151 Winfield Road. Parking is complementary.

Osgood produced and directed the film, receiving a regional Emmy in June. A Q&A session will follow the screening.

"Just Like Me" documents the Vietnam War from the perspective of North Vietnamese, South Vietnamese and U.S. soldiers, as well as civilians. The film follows Osgood in his quest to recover fragmented and buried stories from the controversial conflict.

Perceptions of "enemy" and "foe" begin to shift as the program unfolds, and key patterns reverberate through themes of loss, love, memory and healing. The shared experience of the war becomes a realm to be explored, rather than avoided.

Osgood is professor emeritus at the Indiana University Media School in Bloomington. He taught courses in video design and production and currently instructs a documentary film course for the Indiana University Honors College.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. A cash bar and limited food menu will be available. Coffee is free.
