Democratic candidates to talk with voters Oct. 11
Many people try to learn what they can about people running for public office before they cast their vote in November, but few have the opportunity or the time to hear from the candidates face-to-face.
Kane County voters will have their chance to do that on Thursday, Oct. 11, thanks to a local organization whose mission it has been to educate county residents on the important issues before Election Day Nov. 6.
We Can Lead Change - Fox Valley invites all local community members to meet and talk with their local Democratic Party candidates and ask them anything that's on their minds.
The opportunity for open discussion takes place from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, at Pottawatomie Community Center, 8 North Ave., St. Charles. Light refreshments will be served and child care will be provided.
"Our goal is to reach out to young families in the area - or really anyone - who may not have time to research who is running but would like to learn more by getting face-to-face with the candidates," said Sue Sanders, WCLC member.
Democratic Party candidates expected to attend the event are Nancy Zettler, state Senate candidate in District 33; state Representative candidates Karina Villa, District 49, Jim Leslie, District 50, and Richard Johnson, District 65; Kane County Clerk candidate Nico Jimenez; Kane County Sheriff candidate Ron Hain; Kane County Treasurer candidate Jason Snelson; and Kane County Board candidates Lark Cowart, Jody Kanikula and Lucas Strom.
Congressional candidates Sean Casten, District 6, and Lauren Underwood, District 14, have been invited to attend, as has Democratic gubernatorial candidate J.B. Pritzker.
The Oct. 11 event is the final 2018 event in a series of community service activities organized as WCLC's Educational Series.
We Can Lead Change aims to preserve and protect democracy through advancing education in its communities, providing people the opportunity to be fully informed of the facts of issues so that they can vote responsibly.
The Education Series events are open to the public and take place at convenient Kane County locations on the second Thursday of every month at 7 p.m. Past events have included an explanation of solutions to the national debt and a forum on reasonable gun law reform.
We Can Lead Change - Fox Valley is an unfunded, bipartisan grass-roots organization run by committed, passionate volunteers. It was formed last year by a group of concerned women and men in response to an action item ("form a local huddle") voiced at the Women's March in January 2017.
