Harvest native seed during National Public Lands Day

The Forest Preserve District of Kane County is calling for all ages to help collect seed at our National Public Lands Day volunteer event. Volunteers are welcome to participate in America's largest, single-day volunteer event dedicated to improving public lands.

Natural Resource Management staff will show volunteers how to harvest seeds from specific plants. Seeds will be collected and used to improve or start prairies at other district forest preserves.

This event will take place from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 22, at Dick Young Forest Preserve, 39W115 Main St., Batavia. Meet at the Main Street entrance.

This event is free. Groups of less than 10 do not need to register. Groups of 10 or more should call the volunteer coordinator at (630) 762-2741 or email volunteer@kaneforest.com to RSVP.
