Construction on the north end of the Plum Grove Road Reconstruction Project to begin Sept. 17

The Village of Schaumburg would like to inform the public that construction on the north end of the Plum Grove Road Reconstruction Project is anticipated to begin Monday, Sept. 17, which will include a detour to allow contractors to safely construct the village's first roundabout.

The entire project consists of the reconstruction of Plum Grove Road between Higgins and Wiley roads, which is being broken into two parts, as well as State Parkway/National Parkway between Plum Grove and Golf roads. View the Plum Grove Road Reconstruction maps at http://bit.ly/2x6Y40e.

Work beginning this fall will be located at the northern end of the project, which will require the closure of the intersection of Remington Road at Plum Grove Road to allow for the construction of a roundabout. Detours will be provided and will direct motorists to use State/National Parkway and Basswood Road. View the detour of the Remington Road Closure map at http://bit.ly/2COQL2p. This section of the project is anticipated to be complete by December of 2018; the intersection will then be reopened to traffic for winter.

While there may be temporary restrictions in some areas, access to businesses will be maintained throughout the project. Prior to construction, staff met with business owners located in the construction zone to inform them of upcoming construction and associated closures and held a pre-construction open house.

Motorists are reminded to maintain the posted speed limit and refrain from using cell phones in the work zone. Motorists should also plan for additional time if traveling in the area.

The village will be receiving $8 million in federal Surface Transportation Program (STP) funds for the Plum Grove Reconstruction Project. Future segments of work on the project will resume in spring of 2019.

The Village of Schaumburg is continuing to invest in infrastructure, which was a priority defined by residents who participated in the most recent National Citizen Survey. As a result of the survey, the village approved a $60 million capital improvement program for 2018. As part of this plan, $8 million is being spent on local street repair with an additional $13.3 million allocated for major roadways such as Plum Grove Road, Woodfield Road and State/National Parkway.

Construction updates will be provided in the village's free weekly e-newsletter (sign up at www.schaumburg.com) and on the village's website at http://bit.ly/2pe3ocD. Those with questions or concerns can email PlumGroveRdProject@schaumburg.com, dial 311 in Schaumburg or call (847) 895-4500 outside of Schaumburg.
