'A Walk in the Park' returns to Arlington Heights

The Arlington Heights Art Guild will hold its 47th annual fine art fair, “A Walk in the Park,” from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 26, at North School Park, 410 N. Arlington Heights Road, at Miner Street.

Admission is free, and there is plenty of free parking at the south end of the park, as well as in the commuter lot west of the library. All commuter parking is free on Sunday.

This is a juried show of more than 80 vendors with works including oils, watercolors, acrylics, pastels, colored pencil, pen and ink, photography, jewelry, woodcraft, pottery, fabric art, floral crafts and others.

This year the fair will host many new artists, as well as favorite vendors from years past.

This is a great destination for art lovers and families alike. For the kids, the fair will offer an opportunity for them to make their own art. There is also a playground to enjoy. A classical guitarist will perform as you stroll the grounds enjoying the landscaping, water fountain and, of course, the works of talented artists. There will be food vendors, sweets and ice cream as well.

The Art Guild was created by 30 like-minded artists in 1971. Their purpose was to promote an interest in art, offer demonstrations by artists at their meetings, network with other artists and to create an opportunity to display their art throughout the community. The guild also offers scholarships to high school students.

New members are welcome at the guild's meetings, held September through May (excluding December), on the third Thursday of the month at the Wheeling Township Hall, 1616 N. Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights.

Meetings start at 7:15 p.m. and include a demonstration by a guest artist. Membership is open to all art enthusiasts by coming to a meeting, picking up an application at the fair, or going to the website, arlingtonheightsartguild.com.
