Bloomingdale Library sponsoring Volunteer Fair

The Bloomingdale Public Library wants to help those who want to volunteer but don't know where to start.

The library will sponsor its annual Volunteer Fair from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, at 101 Fairfield Way.

The fair will offer opportunities for aspiring volunteers of all ages. Students, families and retirees can meet with representatives from 17 organizations who are looking for help, including the American Cancer Society, Almost Home Foundation, Bloomingdale Food Pantry, Feed My Starving Children, World Relief DuPage and more. The full list of participants is listed on the library's website at mybpl.org.

In addition to meeting exhibitors, anyone who is new to volunteering or wants to learn more about making an impact on their community is encouraged to attend a special Volunteering 101 presentation at 9:30 a.m. before the fair opens.

HandsOn Suburban Chicago, a local nonprofit group that connects people to volunteer opportunities in their area, is leading the presentation, which will include an introduction to its website and illustrate the ways volunteering benefits communities.

“The presentation is a great option for people who aren't sure where to start when it comes to volunteering,” said librarian Katie Yager, one of the staff members coordinating the fair.

“The fair is important because it highlights the many volunteer opportunities that are available to people of all ages in the Bloomingdale community,” Yager said. “Whether you want to volunteer for a well-rounded transcript or simply because you're looking for something to do, there will be plenty of chances at the Volunteer Fair.”

The fair is free. For details, visit mybpl.org or call (630) 924-2730.
