Schaumburg on Stage presents 'The Little Mermaid'

Go "under the sea" as Schaumburg On Stage presents the award-winning musical Disney's "The Little Mermaid" Aug. 3, 4 and 5 at the Richard C. Johnson Auditorium at Barrington High School, 616 W. Main St., in Barrington.

Now in its 21st season and 36th production, Schaumburg On Stage has been bringing the Northwest suburbs premier musical theater since 1998.

Schaumburg on Stage's "The Little Mermaid" uses playful orchestrations, whimsical costumes and showstopping dance numbers to bring the underwater kingdom to life.

Michele Gurrieri of Schaumburg and Angela Tomaso of Elk Grove Village are featured in the role of Ariel, a beautiful and curious mermaid who wishes to explore and find love above the sea. Prince Eric is portrayed by Payton Kaye of Schaumburg and Nick Rogacki of Elk Grove Village.

Ariel's best friend Flounder is played by Jadynn Punchak of Schaumburg, Alexandria Mele of Arlington Heights and Alex Garcia of South Barrington. Jessica Morales of Elk Grove Village and Gia Daubenmire of Bartlett share the role of the loyal crab Sebastian, who is the assistant to King Triton, played by Kyle Moore of Streamwood and Joseph Tomaso of Elk Grove Village.

The Sea Witch Ursula is played by Mia Gurrieri of Schaumburg and Ava Coletta of Elk Grove Village. Her sidekicks, Flotsam, played by Logan Kennelly of Elk Grove Village, and Jetsam, played by Emily Erhardt of Schaumburg, assist in Ursula's manipulative deeds.

Other characters you will encounter include Prince Eric's guardian, Grimsby, portrayed by Michael Tarchala of Elk Grove Village; an unhinged seagull named Scuttle, played by Alex Kiss of Streamwood and Charlie Holcomb of Hoffman Estates; and a French culinary master, Chef Louis, played by Morgan Schoebel of Elk Grove Village and Kira Baasch of Streamwood.

The production is led by producers Mary Alice Benoit and Mary Miller; directors Taylor Benoit and Jim Shedd; vocal director Audrey Rose; musical director/conductor Chase Frankel; and choreographer Amanda Zgonina.

The cast of more than 70 performers, ranging from ages 8 to 18 years, has been rehearsing for six weeks to prepare for this classic Disney musical featuring songs such as "Under The Sea," "Part of Your World," "Kiss The Girl," and "She's in Love."
