Kane County Clerk's Office to open branch office in Aurora Aug. 13

On Monday, Aug. 13, the Kane County Clerk's Office will be opening a new branch office at 5 E. Downer Place, Suite F, on Stolp Island in downtown Aurora, under the City of Aurora's parking garage and next to the historic GAR building and Fox River.

Aurora office hours will be the same as the main office - Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; and Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Kane County Clerk John A. Cunningham said, "I am excited that we are ready to open the new office in Aurora. I have been planning to open an Aurora office for years and we were finally able to get all the parties together to make this work. Residents of Aurora and surrounding areas will be able to come to the new office to pick up copies of birth, death, and marriage records, apply for passports, and for the other functions of the Clerk's Office, without driving to Geneva."

The Clerk's Office already has assumed responsibility for election administration and voter registration for residents living in the Kane County portion of the City of Aurora following the termination of the Aurora Election Commission. Residents seeking to register to vote or change their name or address can do so at the Clerk's Office in Aurora.

Aurora residents are encouraged to stop into the new office not only to take advantage of the services provided by the Clerk's Office but also to become familiar with the eSlate voting machines that will be used in elections beginning this fall. Step-by-step instructional videos about the machines are also available at kanecountyclerk.org/Elections/Pages/E-Slate-Introduction-Videos.aspx.

Cunningham added, "From the beginning, this has been a collaborative process requiring the cooperation of many elected officials and staff. I would like to thank everyone involved in helping to open the office in Aurora, especially the staff of my office, Aurora Mayor Richard Irvin and the City Council, members of the Kane County Board, County Board Chairman Chris Lauzen, Kane County IT Director Roger Fahnestock and the IT Department, and the Kane County state's attorney's office. We put together a good plan and a great team, and we are now seeing the results of all the hard work."

The grand opening of the office will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 13, with representatives from Kane County and the City of Aurora on hand to celebrate the event.

Services offered at the Aurora branch office will include:

• Passports Applications accepted for passport book and card; photos taken for a $15 fee
