Brushwood Center salutes veterans with 'Earth Rise' benefit concert Sept. 16

The soulful voice of Navy veteran Angela Walker will fill the summer air when she raises her song to benefit local veterans on the 50th anniversary of "Earth Rise," the first photo of Earth taken from the moon's orbit, during the Apollo 8 mission.

Guests are invited to spread out a picnic and enjoy an outdoor concert of country, blue grass, and easy-listening tunes by Angela Walker's band at Brushwood Center.

Walker is a singer, song writer and actress who loves to sing jazz, standards, blues, country, contemporary and gospel music. In addition to being an entertainer, she is a motivational speaker, and a community advocate and voice for veterans. Walker is also a U.S. Navy veteran, an eight-time recipient of the National Veterans Creative Arts Festival Award and an ambassador for Operation Rebound.

The concert will take place at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 16, at the Brushwood Center at Ryerson Woods, 21850 N. Riverwoods Road, Riverwoods.

Proceeds will benefit Brushwood Center's At Ease program, which provides restorative, nature-based art workshops for veterans, and Operation Rebound, which strengthens the mental and physical well-being of veterans, military personnel and first responders with permanent physical injuries through sports and fitness.

Tickets are $25 for Brushwood members, $35 for nonmembers, and are available at www.brushwoodcenter.org.

For information on sponsorship opportunities, call (224) 633-2425.
