Learn about legends of the moon during night hikes with naturalists

Learn the lore, legends and science of the moon on the Forest Preserve District of Kane County's night-hike series for all ages.

Traditional cultures have names for each month's full moon, signifying important natural events of the season.

Participants will enjoy a walk in the woods - even if the skies are cloudy - during these monthly night hikes.

The first night hike, "Strawberry Moon," will take place from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 27, at Camp Tomo Chi-Chi Knolls, 40W095 Freeman Road, Gilberts.

The second night hike, "Buck Moon," will be 8:15 to 9:15 p.m. Friday, July 27, at LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve, 37W700 Dean St., St. Charles.

The third night hike, "Sturgeon Moon," will take place from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 26, at Johnson's Mound Forest Preserve, 41W600 Hughes Road, Elburn.
