Des Plaines Friends of the Parks Announces Scholarship Program for Des Plaines Park Districts Creative Corners Preschool!

The Des Plaines Friends of the Parks is proud to announce its 2018-2019 Rivers Casino Educational Grant Scholarship! This is a brand new scholarship that will provide up to 30 Des Plaines children aged 2-5 with full tuition to the Park District's Creative Corners Preschool Programming.

"It is a very exciting time for us here at the Friends" says Shawn Killian, president of the Friends of the Parks. "This new program will allow many children the opportunity to begin building valuable life skills at an earlier age than they might have been previously able and will bring some needed financial relief to many families here in Des Plaines."

.Although this is a Scholarship Program put together by the Friends of the Parks, it was only able to be created through a generous grant from Rivers Casino.

"We hope that this is also the beginning of a long relationship with Rivers Casino that allows us to continue this scholarship program for many years into the future," says Killian.

If you are interested in applying for this scholarship you can pick up an application from the Park District's Leisure Center or Prairie Lakes facilities, the Des Plaines Public Library or online from the Friends website www.desplainesfriendsoftheparks.org. Fully completed applications must be turned in by noon on July 16th to either the Leisure Center or Prairie Lakes. We currently cannot accept online submissions. If you have any questions you can call the Friends at (847) 391-5089.

Since 2014 the Des Plaines Friends of the Parks has been a completely volunteer organization dedicated to enriching the lives of the youth of Des Plaines by providing scholarships to participate in various Park District programming. In that period of time they have given out over $45,000. They are always on the lookout for new members to welcome to their ranks!
