The Essence of Freedom Run celebrates its 5th Anniversary Monday, May 28, Memorial Day, at 8:45 a.m. Runners and walkers from across the country will participate in the 5k run which begins and ends at 849 Waukegan Rd., Deerfield, Ill.

The Essence of Freedom Run is the signature fundraising event for Support Our Soldiers Freedom, Inc., a 501(c)(3) organization. Proceeds from the run provide support to active duty military and veterans for expenses not covered by military benefits. Recent recipients include an Army Veteran who faced eviction and the mother of a Marine Corps Boot Camp graduate who could not afford to attend his graduation.

Registration for the 5K race is $45 through May 25; $50 May 26-27 and $55 on Race Day. Online registration closes at 5 p.m. May 27. Active duty, including police and firefighters, can register for free.

Participants who register in advance will receive timing chips and are eligible for medals. Medals will be distributed by age group for the best overall time. All participants will receive a special 5th Anniversary race shirt.

In addition to the race, participants will enjoy a silent auction, awards ceremony, breakfast and entertainment followed by the Memorial Day parade and ceremonies.

Sponsorship opportunities are also available. For more information, or to register, go to www.essenceoffreedomrun.com or call 847-457-4756.
