Kaneland Community Fine Arts Festival to feature dozens of artists April 8

Celebrate the arts this weekend at the Kaneland Arts Initiative's Community Fine Arts Festival. The community is invited from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 8, at the campus of Kaneland High School, 47W326 Keslinger Road in Maple Park. Admission is free.

More than 20 professional visual and performing artists will be presenting their work for the more than 3,000 guests who attend this interactive, intergenerational event.


Visual artists will be actively working on art as well as selling their pieces. Performing artists will be presenting programs in the Kaneland auditorium.

Showcased throughout this celebration will be more than 500 pieces of student artwork that includes a joint student and professional art auction. There is even an area for the infants and toddlers in the Pre-K Art Experience, presented by the Fox Valley Career Center Small Worlds Learning Center.

While this event lasts for 6 hours, you can stop by for an hour or stay for three.

The performing artists in the auditorium will be: Raksanna and the Desert Flames at 11:15 a.m.; Rosie & The Rivets at 12:30 p.m.; Kaneland McDole fourth- and fifth-grade choir at 1:45 p.m.; Kaneland Youth Orchestra at 2:45 p.m.; Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra Sterling Brass at 3:15 p.m.; and Mark Hayward, yo-yo artist, at 4:15 p.m.

Workshops in the Black Box Theatre will be: The Art of Belly Dancing with Raksanna and the Desert Flames at 12:15 p.m.; Amazing Stage Makeup at 2:30 p.m.; and Stage Presence with Pizzazz at 3:30 p.m. Preregister at artskai.org.

From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., the roster of the Visual Artists in the arts pavilion will be: Zach Barnard, acrylic; Bill Bartelt, watercolor; John Dart Van De Merrt, wood-turning; Nancy Turner Marshall, decoupage; Josh Merrill, photography; Joe Pacheco, ceramics; Karen Plummer, fiber art and silk painting; John Paul Schafer, oil collage; Phil Schorn, colored pencil; Amy Simpson, glass fusing; Les Scott, scratchboard art; Natalya Sots, ceramics; Stefanie Taranto, oil stick pastel; Lisa Williams, jewelry; and Sindy Vicious, makeup artist.

The workshops from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the arts pavilion will include: caricatures by Shiroda; virtual reality experience by CG Cookie; and Ranjan's Henna Tattoos.

There is no admission for the festival, however, food will be provided for purchase throughout the day by Hill's Country Store & Alexa's Sweets & Treats. Parking is free.
