Open house Feb. 8 to teach families ABCs of preschool

If you're happy and you know it, head to Schaumburg Park District's Preschool Open House!

Parents interested in registering their children for the first time for the fall 2018-2019 school year are invited to attend the Open House, set for 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 8 at the district's three preschool locations.

During the event, parents and children will be able to visit classrooms and learn more about the curriculum.

"Parents will be able to meet the teachers and see what we offer as a preschool program," said Early Childhood Supervisor, Teresa Varco. "We'll do some hands-on activities that help children learn and grow."

Open House locations include:

• Bock Neighborhood Center, 1223 W. Sharon Lane

• Meineke Recreation Center, 220 E. Weathersfield Way

• Pat Shephard Early Childhood Center, 421 N. Springinsguth Road

The 2018-2019 school year will run September 2018 to May 2019.

Children must be 2.5 years old on or before Sept. 1, 2018 to begin preschool. For 4-year-old preschool, children must be 4 years old on or before Sept. 1, 2018.

Schaumburg Park District Preschool is accredited by the National Academy for the Education of Young Children. A variety of classes are offered, with curriculum designed to enhance social and language skills, develop kindergarten readiness and boost self-confidence while introducing early math, writing and scientific problem-solving concepts.

Resident registration for preschool begins Feb. 26.
