Waubonsee to host Veterans Day events
Waubonsee Community College in Sugar Grove will host two events in conjunction with Veterans Day this year.
The first event is called, "Through the Eyes of Veterans: Images and Stories of Vietnam." Jim Davidson of North Aurora was an infantryman and helicopter door gunner in 1968 and 1969 in Vietnam. He captured his experience there in photographs that he will show in this special presentation. Other military veterans will be present to share their experiences, as well.
"Through the Eyes of Veterans: Images and Stories of Vietnam" will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, in the Multi-Purpose Room on the Aurora downtown campus, 18 S. River St.
On Friday, Nov. 10, Waubonsee will host a Veterans Day commemoration at 11:15 a.m. in the Student Center Café on the Sugar Grove campus, Route 47 at Waubonsee Drive.
This event will be informational and interactive.
Amy Powers, associate professor of history, will give the keynote address. There will be student projects about World War I from Waubonsee's history 112 class - "Western Civilization Since 1648," as well as choral and instrumental music performances by students in the college's music program.
Both of these events are free and open to the public.
