St. Charles teen to earn Eagle Scout Oct. 28

Evan Leonard of Troop 13 in St. Charles will receive the rank of Eagle Scout at a Court of Honor on Saturday, Oct. 28, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in St. Charles.

Evan's Eagle Scout Leadership project was at Lazarus House in St. Charles. Lazarus House helps people in need find the shelter, food and other support services they need to get back on their feet. Evan fund raised and led a crew of 28 volunteers who put in 240 hours. They cleaned and painted the men's sleeping and eating area of the main shelter. The shelter had not been painted since Lazarus House opened 20 years ago. Evan raised more money than needed to purchase supplies and was able to donate over $500 directly to Lazarus House.

Evan has earned 36 merit badges, 15 more than required to become Eagle. He has served various leadership positions within his troop and was recently inducted into the Order of the Arrow. Evan has completed both troop and district sponsored leadership training and was a Den Chief to Pack 151. He has completed high adventure trips to the Boundary Waters, Sea Base and Philmont.

Evan attends St. Charles East High School where he is on the track and cross-country teams. He also works as a life guard at Turtle Splash Pool in West Chicago during the summer.
